Food Review: Michelina's Greek Recipe Chicken Pizza

I had fun writing the GW Hunters review, so I thought I would add in some other kinds of reviews.

Name: Michelina's "Authentico" Greek Recipe Chicken Pizza

Category: Frozen microwave single serve meals

Price: <$1

Rating: 2 stars

I have to admit, I'm a sucker for the frozen food isle at the grocery store. Once I see all of the wonderful, frozen convenience foods, I forget everything I know about nutrition. Sure, I know I should eat healthier and I could choose something better, but there is just something appealing about being able to cook the whole thing in less than three minutes.

It also amazes me how you can cook a pizza in the microwave and it comes out crispy. The Greek pizza held up to that standard nicely. After 2:30 in the oven, it came out with a crisp, flaky crust. The packaging contains a foil sheet (since when is foil in the microwave ok?) on which to cook the pizza.

When I first opened the box, I was impressed with the smell of feta cheese. However, after cooking, the odor and taste of feta had vanished. The toppings also contained mozzarella, spinach, black olives, onions and microscopic pieces of chicken. Overall, the toppings were a good balance of flavors. The sauce was particularly flavorful and not over done. I enjoyed the pizza, but after each bite thought, "What is that odd taste?" I believe it came from the chunks of spinach, which when cooked still tasted like unseasoned frozen spinach. I'm not sure I would buy it again, but I was pleasantly surprised at how satisfying the Greek pizza was.

The nutritional information isn't pretty, but at 360 calories and 16 grams of fat, it beats out one slice of Pizza Hut Supreme pizza or a Big Mac. At least this way, you are limited to one serving.

You're brave. Microwave pizza scares me!!! lol But I agree with you about the convenience of the frozen foods. Do you have Presidents Choice products in the US?

You get used to the one part of the pizza that always comes out super crispy. I haven't heard of Presidents Choice, so I'm guessing we don't have it here.
